Trying to get to the anchorage before the storm
The Timberwind from Rockport coming into anchor behind us. The storm went somehwere, we got nothing :-)
Wed. 3rd day
Sun, no clouds!! Clear skies, it's wonderful to see the clear blue sky. It's clear as far as the eye can see... for the moment. After all we are in Maine and on the ocean so things can change and fast.
We anchored at Fort Point/Pownall last night. Just us and one other schooner. We came up the river a bit for this anchorage. After supper a bunch of us went ashore to visit the light house. The walk was nice and I was feeling pretty good after being off my feet for a few days.
Every morning I wake at about 4:30 (my usual time) but still too early to get up. We have to be somewhat quiet for folks still sleeping. So at about 6:30 the crew is cleaning the deck so that's my 2nd alarm to wake up and get up and have a bit of quite on deck before tea and coffee is brought up.
The crew cleans the deck first thing with salt water which helps keep the deck in tip top shape. Then they wipe everything down and take the kerosene lanterns down to clean and take care of. They keep those on all night so if someone has to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom (The head)so they can see.
That morning as a woman by the name of Janet and I sat and had our tea(me) and coffee(her) we saw a seal swimming around, enjoying the solitude of the quiet cove. Then the jelly fish started to swim by us. They are called in layman's terms Lion's Mane. They can reach 8ft in diameter!!
After we set sail we headed past Dyce Head light, near Castine.
Puffy white clouds came in from the west but a nice breeze for sailing :-)
Went by Pumpkin Light which is a favorite of mine, which means we are going under Eggemoggin Reach Bridge!! That is always a challenge for the boat. Last September because of some error, the Top mast on the Main sail, came off. So with that in mind I was really bracing myself for impact this year. There is only one spot on the bridge where a boat as tall as the Mary Day can sail under with no room for error. There is always crew members up on the sails to bring down the Top Mast and the Fore Topsail. I can't even imagine the impact of that.
Well this time we ended up fine.

More like WHAT???? I had my own flag system gong on here BUT I was warm :-)
